Recently, the trend of enjoying afternoon tea becomes extremely popular in Vietnam generally and Hanoi particularly. I myself really love afternoon tea since the very first time trying a hot pot of tea, yummy mini desserts, chatting with friends and enjoying the feeling of a slow weekend. I usually save up money in 2 or 3 weeks then together with my friends to explore the afternoon tea sets in some hotels in Hanoi. Here are 5 best afternoon tea places in Hanoi. In the next post, I will introduce some other spots that have more affordable price.
1. The Lounge – JW Marriott hotel Hanoi
JW Marriott Hanoi is one of the newest 5-star hotel in Hanoi, famous with the modern style and elegance decoration. The hotel is also where a lot of of the best restaurants in Hanoi located in, for example French Grill – fine dining French restaurant or Crystal Jade Palace – dimsum restaurant. Besides, The Lounge is also one of the places where you could find the most delicious afternoon tea set in Hanoi.
Afternoon tea set for 2 people is presented in a box which I love to call it “The mysterious chest”. A set includes a nice pot of tea, several savoury snacks, and pastries. I really like the mini sandwiches here, there were 2 flavors that are ham, cheese, pesto sauce; and pork. That mini croissants were filled with cured salmon were pretty delicious tho. The pastries & sweet treats were ok.

2. Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi
Metropole Hanoi Hotel is located in the heart of the city, with French colonial architecture, beautiful & authentic interior, flooded with natural light, which is extremely suitable place to meet up with friends on weekend. Afternoon tea set of Metropole includes acake stand filled with small pastries, savoury sandwiches, fresh fruit and a choice of tea. However a set only comes with 1 drinks, so you may want to order one more drinks.
Another choice for who don’t want to order the afternoon tea set, you can order some dessert items and tea seperately. I highly recommend the strawberry cheesecake with sorbet and cream brulee. They also have macarons but since I have tried Ladurée and Pierre Herme before…
In terms of of tea, personally I think Metropole has the best tea among 5 places, especially the Red Fruit & Vanilla one.

5. Sunser Bar / Diplomat Lounge – InterContinental West Lake Hanoi
There’s nothing more romantic than an elegant afternoon tea party in West Lake scenery, isn’t it? Intercontinental Hanoi West Lake offers 2 options for you to enjoy afternoon tea set. The 1st one is located near the lobby, called Diplomat Loung, The 2nd one is located along West Lake, named Sunset Bar where you can have a spectacular sunset views.
Personally I think the Sunset bar is much better than the other one because they have obviously better tea set with mini bruschetta, sandwiches, small bites of opera cake & chocolate, and even Vietnamese Banh com (green rice cake lol). Moreover, enjoying a soothing afternoon, slowly having a sip of tea and watching the sunset on the West Lake are the special experiences you must try once in a life time!
